Writing & yoga retreat on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast

Yoga teacher Jamie Wood at Playa Herradura

Yoga first thing in the morning, writing practice and instruction to follow, and long tropical afternoons at the beach.

Sounds good to me. Very, very good.

Toronto-based writer, editor and teacher Allyson Latta is doing what I’ve been meaning to do for years: combining a writing retreat with gentle yoga and setting it in an inspiring tropical locale that will bring you, quite literally, to your senses.

I’m imagining long days of hammock swinging, ocean swimming, and diving deep into the writer’s imagination.

The retreat, set for this coming January, is at the intimate Namaste Gardens, located at the end of a quiet road in the sunny Pacific coast beach town of Herradura (6 km north of Jacó). Latta hopes that the comfortable accommodations, the lush jungle garden, the backyard pool, and the nearby beach will offer “a tranquil escape that encourages both mindfulness and playfulness.”

Latta says the retreat is suitable for writers of memoir, fiction or poetry, whether beginners or more advanced. There will be informal craft workshops and time to focus on your own new writing or works-in-progress. Visit Allyson’s site for more information.

Allyson also interviewed me for her blog; see The World and How We Make Our Way Though It.
