Costa Rica treehouse community on ABC

Matt and Erica Hogan’s sustainable treehouse community down near Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula is getting amazing press these days, and I’m not just talking about my profile of them in the third edition of Living Abroad in Costa Rica (which hit the bookstores this week) or my post on this blog, Life in the Costa Rica Trees.

Finca Bella Vista was featured this morning on ABC’s Good Morning America and profiled on ABC’s web site as “the first energy-efficient treehouse community.” I’m not so sure they’re the first, but they are definitely one of the most interesting. Matador Travel agrees, and has featured Matt and Erica and their zip-lining bulldog Kimbo in Breaking Free, billed as exploring “the lives of real-life Americans who have dared to live their dreams.”

The film is heavy on expats in Costa Rica and Panama, profiling not only the Finca Bella Vista folks but also Christine and Suresh of Desafio Adventure Company in La Fortuna near Lake Arenal, who’ve taken me on some great trips, including rappelling down the face of an all-too-tall waterfall.

Thanks a bunch for the plug, Erin! We’re excited to read the latest version of your book (I think I told you during your last visit that your first edition was the first book I purchased and read prior to making the big move down here- it was very inpiring and extremely helpful and informative for us)!

Where can we buy a copy of your latest version in la Zona Sur? We’ve recommended it to several of our residents who have already moved or are moving down to Finca Bellavista in the coming months.

Thanks again- I hope we’ll get to see you down here again soon!

    Saludos cordiales!

    Mateo, Erica, y Kimbo Loco!

    alo a los fincaBellavite├▒os locos!

thanks for the kind words about my book. As for where you can get it in the Zona Sur — that’s a very good question. My publisher (Avalon Travel/Moon) isn’t great about getting my book to Central America, period, so if you do see it for sale in your neck of the selva, I sure want to know about it!

    See you soon, I hope,

    Erin
